Miss McKenzie, Mr. McGroarty to wed July 18

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Burch McKenzie, III, of Eufaula announce the engagement of their daughter, Martine Downing, to David Desmond McGroarty, son of Dr. and Mrs. David John McGroarty of Richmond, Va.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. Robert Downing McKenzie of Georgetown and the late Martine Comer McKenzie and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pete Anton Wolff, Jr., of Evergreen.
Miss McKenzie is a 2001 graduate of The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J. She attended The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., and graduated in 2005 from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., earning a major in psychology and a minor in Spanish.
Upon graduation, she was employed in Washington with Orr Associates, Inc., and the Independent Petroleum Association of America.
In 2007 Miss McKenzie was selected by the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme as an assistant language teacher and spent a year in Mihara, Japan, teaching English to senior high school students.
She is preparing for candidacy in speech-language pathology at Vanderbilt University.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. John Henry Kennedy, Sr., of Haverford, Pa., and Stuart, Fla., and the late Marjorie Walters Kennedy and of the late Francis Joseph McGroarty and Rosemary Gilgan McGroarty of New York and Sarasota, Fla.
Mr. McGroarty, a 2001 graduate of St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, Va., was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in 1999. He received a bachelor’s degree in government from Georgetown University in 2005.
Through a competitive process, he was selected by the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) program in 2007-08 as an assistant language teacher, where he taught English to elementary and junior high school students in Seiyo, Japan.
He is presently employed as a legal assistant with Kirkland & Ellis, LLP, in Washington, D.C., and will attend Vanderbilt University in the fall to pursue an MBA.
The wedding is planned for July 18 at Dahlgren Chapel of the Sacred Heart on the campus of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., followed by a reception at The Fairmont Hotel.
