Local artist enjoys photographing nature’s wonders
This gorgeous close-up of flowers in the recent Friends of Fendall Hall Garden Festival was taken by local nature photographer Dot Steely.
“I take pictures of odd things.”
That’s how local photographer Dot Steely prefaces her work. Odd things, funny things, beautiful things - Steely photographs them all on her digital Pentax 20D camera.
Some of the odder things she photographs include someone sitting on a commode up for sale at the “goat auction” near Clayton. Some of the more beautiful things include stunning close-ups of flora and fauna.
“I try to capture a moment. I try to look for something special … something that will make the photo unique,” says Steely.
Steely’s interest in photography began on a trip to Paris. She took a contemplative photo of a painter in the Parisian “artists’ colony.”
Since then, Steely has been interested in the art of photography. Digital photography is her forte.
“I wanted to take pictures, but I didn’t want the hassle of sending off film. Plus, I like working on computers.”
