From trash to treasure: first steeple installed on church
The congregation of Christian Grove Church on Five Mile Road was greeted by the sight of the building’s new steeple this past Sunday.
Volunteers and church members worked last Tuesday to install the steeple that was recently acquired by the church.
Pastor B.J. Fore said that this is the first time they know of that the church has had a steeple.
The steeple itself has an interesting story behind it. It came to Eufaula all the way from Cross City, Fla., and more specifically, Central Baptist Church.
The steeple was originally installed on that church in 1978. Decades later, in 2007, the church started a building project to replace their steeple.
At the time, Fore was associate pastor of that church.
“This one (the old steeple) was marked to be thrown away,” said Fore. “But I said, ‘Let’s not throw it away, lets store it,’ thinking maybe someone could get some use out of it one day.”
Fore moved to Eufaula to be Pastor of Christian Grove Church nearly a year ago. When talk of buying a steeple began, Fore remembered the old steeple from Central Baptist Church that was sitting in storage.
After working out a deal for the steeple, congregation members Sonny Morris and Robert “Chief” Mason refurbished it. With the help of Dusty Richards of Angry Beaver Tree Service, the steeple was lifted into place late Tuesday morning.
Now, the pristine little steeple, once considered trash, is a treasured addition to this growing country church.
