Governor to decide Quitman school board member

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue will determine the next school board member in Quitman County.

Quitman County Board of Education members are divided on who they want to appoint as a fifth member to replace Willie H. Bussey, Sr., who died in late March.

Board chairman Loyd Lewis and board member Billy Shirah are supporting Cynthia Balkcom. Fellow board members Willie Anderson and Dr. Bobby Willis have both voiced support for Jimmy Eleby.

Quitman County Schools Superintendent William Burns confirmed last week that the system has asked Perdue to intervene.
