Pastor describes Turner as smart, generous child

Pastor Steve Montgomery has a visitor every week before Sunday school.
Montgomery, the pastor of Grace Independent Baptist Church on Highway 30, always looks forward to Nathaniel Turner’s visits.
Nathaniel, 7, is a smart kid according to Montgomery. He frequently memorizes Bible verses from Sunday school class lessons.
Turner was looking forward to church camp this summer. That was before he learned that he would spend the summer with his father, Leslie G. Schuler, in Worcester, Mass.
“He had helped raise money for camp this summer, but was unable to attend because he had to go to his father’s house for the summer,” Montgomery recalled Wednesday. “But even when he found out he could not go to camp, he was still willing to help so the other kids could go.”
Stories of such kindness were common Wednesday from those who know Turner.
“The smile in the picture - he has it all the time,” Eufaula Primary School principal Suzann Tibbs said of a recently-taken photo. “With the dimple.”
More on this story appears in the weekend edition of The Tribune, available Friday morning.

When I spoke to Ms. Christine today Compass Bank had received $16.00. We have not received our offering for our Church yet we will do that Sunday. If we can get the word out they really need help the service is going to cost them $4000.00 plus there expenses for being out of town and out of work for the week and a half. And before this is over I am sure it will be even longer. The Fund is set up at

There has not been any official memorial service set up for here in Eufaula as of yet. I spoke with Mrs. Taylor this morning and she expresses a desire to have a service here. The funeral services have not been set for Mass. yet. There has been a fund set-up at Compass Bank to help cover the needs of the family dealing with the arrangements. As soon as I know about the funeral arrangement and a memorial service I will post it here.

Pastor Steve, is a memorial planned for Nathaniel here in Eufaula? I’m sure I am not the only person who wants to know; Nathaniel had many friends here.
My family lives around the corner from the Taylor home. If Nathaniel was playing outside and saw my car coming, he would often get to my house before I did! He would grin at me and ask “Mrs. Pattie, can I come in and play?“
He loved playing with my son, Gabe. They climbed trees, watched Cartoon Network or played Bakugan Battle Brawlers. He loved to play Chutes and Ladders and was ecstatic when he beat me!
We often took him to Calvary Baptist Church on Wednesday evenings. One night I asked him if Jesus lived in his heart. He grinned from ear to ear and announced, “Yes, ma’am, He does!“
I believe with all my heart that Nathaniel is in heaven. I hope they have trees for little boys to climb.
I will miss him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, Christine.
