“Strange Fantasies” is the title of the art show that will be exhibited at Blue Moon Coffee Shop in March and April.

The reception for this art show will be held tonight from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the coffee shop. The public is invited to drop in to look at the art and chat with the artist.

The art show is sponsored by local artists group, The Art Scene, which Nathaniel Allen (who goes by the nickname “Al”) helped to start and presided over until this year.

Al has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree from Ole Miss; both in painting. The exhibition will include a wide variety of works in oil, acrylic, pencil, pen and charcoal. The variety of subject matter will be quite eclectic.

“I have a lot of divergent interests and I always feel like my artwork appears as if it was done by a group of people instead of one person,” he said. “I guess I don’t enjoy feeling like my ideas are limited to having to be depicted in a certain style. I enjoy the freedom to do whatever I can dream up artistically, but it takes a lot of work.”

Recently, Al has been training in the painting techniques of the Old Masters.

A resident of Eufaula, Al is the assistant professor of art/director of visual studies at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga.

He teaches all studio art classes (drawing, painting and color and design) as well as art history and art appreciation. Before coming to Andrew College in 2004, he taught at Watkins College of Art and Design in Nashville and Volunteer State University in Gallatin, Tenn.
