Eufaula City Schools, Lakeside will close Friday
According to Eufaula City Schools spokesperson Mitzi Clayton, students will make up Friday’s absence on Tuesday, March 16, which is on the system calendar as a student holiday.

Eufaula could receive Friday snow
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a winter storm watch from late Thursday night through Friday afternoon for much of central Alabama, including Eufaula and Barbour County.

On terror trials and improving cybersecurity

Eufaula City School officials met Wednesday for the system’s annual Teacher of the Year luncheon held at Shorter Mansion.
Expanding the Historic District?
Eufaula’s all-volunteer Historic Preservation Commission (EHPC) met to consider the possibility of expanding the district by roughly ten city blocks last week. The public hearing in the auditorium at Carnegie Library drew a crowd of over fifty residents and interested parties.

Barbour County Sheriff Leroy Upshaw found himself involved in a high-speed chase early this morning following a tip that a large amount of narcotics would be coming into the Springhill area of Barbour County in the early morning hours of Monday.
Fendall Hall Renovations
One of Eufaula’s most beloved historic homes is turning 150 years old this year. Fendall Hall, constructed in 1860, is celebrating its birthday with some much-needed renovations to the grand building.

Eufaula man hangs himself at Southeast Alabama Medical Center
A Eufaula man died Thursday likely from suffocation after he reportedly hung himself at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said he responded to the medical center around 4:15 a.m. and pronounced the 55-year-old Barbour County man dead.
DA requests Eufaula Tribune identify reader
The Eufaula Police Department and District Attorney Ben C. Reeves, Jr. want to know the identify of a Tribune reader who has commented on news stories regarding the arrest of a Lt. Steve Hanners, a veteran Eufaula Police Department employee.
