Just when you thought you could work off all those calories consumed during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, along comes Valentine’s Day, pancake suppers, and Boston butt sales.

But that’s OK.  We can diet later.

Donna Harrison and Bro. R. C. Belcher of the Barbour Baptist Association in Clayton wanted to share their brotherly love with the seniors in the association of churches throughout the county. So on Friday, Feb. 13, members of The Barbour Baptist Senior Circle and director Miss Bessie Fenn, brought a cover dish to the BBA office in Clayton and enjoyed classic love songs featuring the incredible vocals of Jean Self.

The association provided the main course of chicken and Donna Harrison of the association shared her special gift of creative decorating.

Bro. Belcher said about 30 ladies and gentlemen were in attendance representing most churches from the county and a larger group than in the past.  He said everyone enjoyed the food, entertainment and fellowship.

The George C. Wallace Heritage Association in Clio hosted another successful pancake supper Feb. 19 at the Heritage Association building.

Jeffrey Baxter was the chef and the association served his famous pancakes made from his secret recipe to about 300 folks.  Though, many ordered plates to go, Ann Bowden of the association said several ate in the dining room.  She also said, “Many were from out of town and some were new residents of the Clio area.  You just can’t beat his pancakes.”

The Louisville Rescue Squad had a successful fundraiser Saturday. They sold several hundred of quarts of Brunswick stew.  Although I picked up a couple of quarts for a friend, I’m told it’s the best mouth-watering stew in the South.  I will definitely get on their list next year.

The new South Barbour EMS of Clio will be cooking and selling Boston butts and slabs of ribs March 14 at Clio City Hall. Rescue squad members, officers and boosters have been issued tickets and each ticket is $20.

This will get you a slab of mouth-watering barbecue ribs or one of those slow-cooked Boston butts. Contact Police Chief Richard Johnson, who is also captain of the new EMS, at 334/397-2723 or 4402 to get your tickets now or he’ll tell you how to contact one of the 15 members of the squad.

All proceeds from this event will go to support the new South Barbour EMS in Clio.
