Eufaula Darlings sweep sub-district tournament

It was a clean sweep for the Eufaula Dixie Darlings.

The 8-and-under girls softball team finished a perfect run through the sub-district tournament with a 14-10 win over Brantley Tuesday in the championship. The game was played at Luverne.

Eufaula will begin play in the district tournament tomorrow (Thursday) in Ozark.

More details on the tournament will appear in the weekend edition of The Eufaula Tribune, available Friday morning.

Angels finish second

The Eufaula Angels almost completed an improbable run toward a sub-district championship.

However, the team finished second in the sub-district tournament after losing to Dothan 5-4 Tuesday. Eufaula had defeated Dothan 6-5 earlier in the evening to force the decisive game.

“All of the girls did a fantastic job,” Eufaula coach Chris Turchiano said. “They battled back time after time and came up just short.  Every single player contributed to the success of the team.”

Eufaula went 4-2 in the tournament, winning four straight must-win games after falling to Headland in the tournament opener.

Eufaula defeated Headland 2-0 Monday to reach the championship round.

For the second time in the tournament Shelby Wood, Emma Tyler and Laura Turchiano combined to pitch a shutout.  Turchiano drove in both Eufaula runners, while Lara Derrow and Brooke Morris made two exceptional defensive plays.

Ozone Rookies finish second

The Eufaula 11-year-old All Stars (Ozone Rookies) finished second in their district tournament, falling to Troy 10-7 in the championship game.

Eufaula led 4-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but Troy countered with six runs to seize momentum.

One day earlier Eufaula rallied back from an early 8-1 deficit to edge Enterprise American 11-10.

Eufaula trailed 8-1 after two innings but scored five runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the final inning for the win.

Payton Little and Ty Gilmore each had two runs for Eufaula and Caleb Bush, Riley Arrington, Dakota Robertson, James Doss, Ivan Gissendaner, Russ Bradshaw and Austin Davis each scored one run.

8-year-olds

Eufaula’s Pre-Minor will play for a district championship tonight after defeating the Greenville Nationals 18-3 Tuesday in Troy.

Eufaula must defeat the host team twice to clinch the title.

Eufaula also eliminated the Greenville Americans with a 14-0 mercy rule victory Monday afternoon.

Michael Lucas, Kyler Wells and Ed Eubanks each scored two runs for Eufaula and Drew Taylor, Henry Reeves, Sellers Smith, Drew Benefield, Spencer Biggs, Hugh Dollar, Jarrod Luke and Kevon Ivey each scored one run.

Eufaula plays the Greenville Nationals in an elimination game today at 6 p.m.

Belles

The Eufaula Belles were eliminated from the sub-district tournament after suffering a 10-6 loss to South Dale.

Georgeanne Whitehead and Whitney Harris each scored two runs for Eufaula and Mallori Green and Chelsea Maldonado scored one run each.

Other action

* The Eufaula Ponytails were eliminated from their tournament after falling to Troy 4-3. Eufaula finished third in the tournament.
