The Barbour County boys’ basketball team went 3-1 last week in the school’s Summer Classic.
The Jaguars, which are coming off a Class 2A State Championship season, have looked good this summer despite the loss of seniors Devondrick Richardson, Joshua Richardson, Courtavious Dorsey and Nicholas Brooks.
The Jaguars won their first game, slipping past Abbeville 41-39. They came back from a seven-point deficit with a little more than a minute to play.
Sophomore guard Takwain Whigham led the team with 16 points. Senior Robert Lampley followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Other scorers included Joseph Screws with 6 points and 11 rebounds, senior Quantez McRae with 4 points and junior Sheldon Thompkins with 2 points.
The Jaguars lost their second game to Booker T. Washington 37-30. Whigham had 13 points followed by Lampley with 8 points and 10 rebounds, Jaquorey Milton with 4 points, Taurean Richardson with 3 points and Screws with 2 points.
The Jaguars bounced back in game three to defeat Bullock County 41-37. Whigham led the team with 11 points. He was followed by Lampley with 8 points, McCrae with 7 points, Screws with 4 points, Nikko Patterson with 3 points and Thompkins, Xavier Wilson, Larry Rumph and Richardson with 2 points each.
Perhaps the best game of the evening was the final game in which area rivals battled as the Jaguars defeated Houston County 54-46.
