Weston scores 20 as Lakeside stuns Dixie
Lakeside threw out the record books Monday evening.
The Chiefs pulled off their most shocking win of the season, stunning rival Dixie Academy 65-46 in the regular season finale for both teams. Lakeside had lost to Dixie 75-42 in late November.
“The difference for us was that we had four scoring in double figures for the first time this year,” Lakeside coach Tom Clements said. “Different people stepped up and were able to give us a chance to win. It was a team effort.”
Senior Jay Weston led the balanced attack with 20 points. But he wasn’t the only Chief to play well.
Junior Trey Fortune scored 13 points and also pulled down 18 rebounds. Bo Casey followed closely with 12 points, and senior Jesse Riles played one of his best games this season as he finished with 10 points.
Dixie (18-5), which clinched second place in AISA Class 1A East Region last weekend, jumped ahead 10-2 with three minutes left in the first quarter. It appeared that the Rebels would coast to their ninth straight win, and a season sweep of Lakeside.
