23 graduate Leadership Barbour
Graduation for Class II of Leadership Barbour was held May 15 at the Eufaula-Barbour County Chamber of Commerce building/James S. Clark Center.
The 23 graduates included: Karen Bennett, Jim Bush, Frazier Farrior, Allen Forte, Betty Griffin, Ryan Hamm, LaConya Hawkins, Ashley Helms, David Hobdy, Anmarie Honan, Matt Horne, Richard Johnson, Glenn Kasper, Corey Kirkland, Michelle McAndrews, Scharin Peterson, Betsy Purcell, Sammy Salter, Barbara Shipman, Ann Sparks, Chuck Taylor, Juan Valdez and Tameka Williams. Graduates, family members and friends heard Gwen Mosley speak on leadership.
Mosley is a graduate of Class I Leadership Barbour, former warden of Ventress and Easterling Correctional Facilities and currently an Institutional Coordinator for the Alabama Department of Corrections in Montgomery.
Quoting author Lance Secretan, she stated, “Leadership is not a formula or a program; it is a human activity that comes from the heart and considers the hearts of others. It is an attitude, not a routine.”
Forte and Helms reflected on their experiences in Class II. Both mentioned things they learned and friendships made. Sherrin Mira was recognized for being chairperson of the Board and Director of Leadership Barbour for the past year. Mira will continue as chairperson for Class III. Mitzi Clayton was announced as the incoming director.

Retirees hold final meeting
The Barbour Eufaula Education Retirees Association held its final meeting for the school year at Sam’s in Louisville for a luncheon.
“The president made a report concerning the AERA Leadership Conference. We learned the value of community service voluntary hours from the souvenir check in the amount of $4 million plus. The check was sent from the Alabama Education Retirees Association,” a spokesperson said.
College scholarships were given to Charolette Farrow of Barbour County High School and Deondra S. Wilson of Eufaula High School.
Farrow will attend Troy University and Wilson will attend Tuskegee University.

First Friday at Blue Moon
Blue Moon Coffee Shop is sponsoring the First Friday Art Show on June 6 from 6-8 p.m. at 347 South Eufaula Avenue.
“We offer the internet, books and newspapers, so I thought it would be fun to surround our customers with original local art,” said shop owner Terry Carroll.
After Carroll met with The Art Scene organization last Tuesday evening, President Nathaniel Allen and members voted to help provide art for the opening exhibition on Friday.
Works of acrylic, watercolor, pastel, photography and sculpture will be in the show. Most art pieces will be for sale. Refreshments of coffee, tea, lemonade and scones will be provided by the Blue Moon Coffee Shop.
