Pink snow.
That’s how Eufaula native Michael Lewis describes the beautiful cherry blossoms that grace the banks of the Potomac River each spring in Washington, D.C.
“We went on a trolley tour and the trolley driver said that’s part of why he loves seeing the cherry blossoms, because they look just like pink snow,” says Lewis.
Lewis attended the National Cherry Blossom Festival April 3-6 in Washington with his mom, Alvenia “Vicki” Lewis, and his childhood friend, Dara Dozier (also a Eufaula native). Lewis explains this was his mom’s first trip to the nation’s capitol.
“She told me that before she died she’d like to see the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery,” he says.
Lewis, recalling the splendor of the cherry blossoms he witnessed on previous trips to Washington, planned their trip so that they could be there when the cherry blooms were at their peak.
