Billy Lawrence Chevrolet bid farewell to a special friend and employee Tuesday when Joseph Norris retired from working at the dealership.
“I’ve been working for (Chevrolet) ever since it’s been up here in Eufaula,” Norris said during a special good-bye party hosted by his family, friends and co-workers.
Norris began working at what was then known as Manley Chevrolet in 1972. He grew up in the Georgetown area and attended Sparks Technical College. As soon as he graduated Sparks College, he began working at the Chevy dealership.
Norris has seen some big changes in Eufaula, the Chevrolet dealership and in cars during the past 38 years. Norris can remember when the automobiles he worked on had “points and condensers.”
“Around 1973, cars went over to electronic ignition and, in 1987-88, they went to direct ignition,” he relates.
Car styles have changed as well in the almost four decades Norris has worked for the Chevy dealership.
He recalls when the dealership began selling Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs and Chryslers.
