Last spring, 120 local volunteers collected 4 ½ tons of trash from the Lake Eufaula shoreline – approximately two tons more than was collected the previous year.

But this March, Brad Moore of Friends of Lake Eufaula hopes volunteers will break the 2011 record.

A “Renew Our Rivers” spring cleanup of the north end of Lake Eufaula will be held Saturday, March 3. The cleanup event is sponsored each fall and spring by Friends of Lake Eufaula, the Coast Guard and Alabama Power.

Volunteers will meet between 7:30 and 8 a.m. at the Coast Guard station at 180 Chewalla Road and disperse to areas along Lake Eufaula north to Thomas Mill Creek. Volunteers will return from the cleanup to the station at noon for a complimentary lunch. Volunteers will also receive free t-shirts and door prizes.
