Local radio personality “J.C.” plans on using the Internet to continue his morning radio show.
Local radio personality “J.C.” realized the power of the Internet after starting his MySpace page.
“MySpace has been my best local marketing tool,” he said, referring to the “friends” he has made online since starting the page.
Two thousand friends later, he plans on using the Internet to continue his morning radio show. He announced plans last week to broadcast his show through cyberspace.
“I’m going another direction which I totally love,” he said. “This is what I want to do. I’ve always wanted a bigger audience anyway.”
J.C. has hosted a morning show on WRVX-97.9 FM from 2003 until last month. The show was a mixture of music (from Survivor and M.C. Hammer to Nickleback and Kelly Clarkson), local news and interviews. He’s looking forward to broadcasting again, but this time on the Internet.
He plans on broadcasting six hours per weekday within the next few weeks. He’ll host a morning show from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. that will be similar to the show he had on WRVX.
“The morning show I’ll do will be local,” he said.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. he’ll host another show. He also plans on hosting a high school football scoreboard show again with “Ketchup.”
J.C. hopes to reach listeners from across the Wiregrass and even across the world with the new station, which can be heard at www.planetradionet.com and located at his MySpace page.
“I love to raise the fun level,” said the upbeat host who often talks about his love of Mountain Dew, Alabama football and Duke basketball on the air and ends a statement by saying “It’s all good.”
“That was my thing, to play the music, have great interviews and have listeners come into my world.”
He said it was a difficult decision to leave the station because of his listening audience.
“It was an unbelievable audience,” he said. “I always told people I have the best gig in the world.”
J.C. says he will continue playing a variety of music rather than one exclusive genre such as Top 40, classic rock or country.
“I want to play all the hits everybody loves to capture the market,” he says. “Listeners enjoy the music.”
But he says the new morning show will be heavy on interviews and call-ins from local individuals, from football coaches to those who just want to wish birthday greetings to a friend or relative.
“You can call me at 7 o’clock live and I’ll put you on the air,” he said.
