The Eufaula Police arrested a Clayton resident on Wednesday after confiscating 35 marijuana plants from his home.
Victor Thomas Bedell, 37, of 5 Midway Street in Clayton was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana.
The arrest was made after months of investigation by the EPD in conjunction with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Bureau of Investigation and Clayton Police Department.
Police arrived at the house at approximately 5 p.m. to execute a search warrant. Inside, investigators recovered the marijuana plants and various pieces of equipment being used to grow the drugs inside the house.
The growing equipment confiscated included such items as LED lights and other paraphernalia worth several thousand dollars, said Stephen Hanners of the Eufaula Police Department.
The seized marijuana is valued at approximately $70,000 or $2,000 per plant.
Bedell was arrested later that evening at approximately 11 p.m.
Hanners says he began looking into the incident after receiving information that someone was growing marijuana in the house.
Also a sworn deputy for the county, Hanners then coordinated with other local law agencies on the case.
“These guys (investigators) have worked hard on this case,” said Eufaula Police Chief J.C. West. “We’re serious about what we do.”
