Soda machine suspect caught
The Eufaula Police Department arrested 33-year-old Nakia Aundrea Johnson of 100 Stevens St. Friday and charged him with criminal mischief first degree and possession of burglary tools, both felony offenses.
Capt. Tim Marsh of the EPD stated during a press conference Monday that Johnson was caught on tape breaking into a three soda machines outside of Piggly Wiggly South early Friday morning.
According to an officer who witnessed the incident, Johnson was using a tire iron to break into the machines when he was spotted by the officer and fled on foot.
Authorities were able to identify Johnson from video surveillance footage taken from the store’s security system.
Johnson was also arrested for probation violation.
Marsh says he anticipates another charge will be brought against Johnson for a similar crime at Kevco Laundromat where he was also caught on tape damaging the locks on the video games.
“We believe he also committed other similar crimes in the past week that have occurred around town,” said Marsh, stating that additional charges from these crimes are unlikely, however, since there was no video footage for investigators to refer to in these cases.
