Former Clayton Police Chief Robert Charles Patrick will seek the office of Barbour County Sheriff, according to a recent press release.

Former Clayton Police Chief Robert Charles Patrick will seek the office of Barbour County Sheriff, according to a recent press release.

“After careful consideration and talking with my family and with (the) people in Barbour County, I decided to run for the office of sheriff,” states Patrick.

Patrick began his career in law enforcement with the Clayton as a police officer in 1994. After completion of police academy and graduating with honors, he was hired by Sheriff Robert Smith and Sheriff John Hamm in 1995.

“I served under … Hamm as a deputy sheriff until competition of an investigator course at the University of Alabama Birmingham Law Enforcement Academy. I became the first investigator for the county of Barbour in 1997.

“In 1998 I was asked by District Attorney Boyd Whigham to join his office as a victim service officer, after competition of a course with the Alabama Victim Service Commission, and to serve as an investigator.”
