A Fort Gaines man was arrested Friday after being found with three ounces of meth just south of Georgetown.
Robert Charles Wiley, age 23, of Fort Gaines, who is currently on state probation for burglary, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine). He is being held without bond.
According to a press release from the Quitman County Sheriff's Department, Wiley was pulled over on State Road 39 south of Georgetown for “failure to maintain lane” and an “improper turn.". Deputy Billy Benefield conducted a probable cause search of Wiley and reportedly discovered a small plastic bag containing marijuana inside his right sock. During a further search of Wiley’s vehicle, Deputy JoAnna Harris reportedly discovered approximately 3 ounces of methamphetamine (ICE) hidden underneath the center console of the vehicle.
“This young man had five “8 balls” of methamphetamine packaged and ready to sale laying next to the larger bag which contained more than 73 grams of ICE. This is a substantial amount of meth for our area," said Sheriff Steve Newton.
Sheriff Steve Newton, Chief Deputy Eddie Ingram, and Investigator Corey Mason assisted Deputies with the investigation.
