Comer resident dead after fall from tree

Comer resident Gene Creighton, 66, passed away on Monday after sustaining serious injuries from a fall.
According to reports by the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department and Eufaula Fire and Rescue, Creighton had climbed a tree to cut down a branch at his residence on Mary C Smith Road.
It appears he cut through his safety rope somehow and fell 20 feet to the ground.
The call for aid came in at 2:01 p.m. on Monday. Creighton was transported to the hospital alive, but reportedly died later from his injuries.
