Former State Senate District 28 candidate Johnny Ford and his wife Joyce London Ford, a retired U.S. Federal Judge, have announced plans to lead the Democratic Alliance of the 28th District.
The new organization is focused on working within the Democratic Party to turn out the vote in support of the Democrats in November.
Mr. Ford stated in a press release that supporters of his state senate campaign have encouraged him and his wife to lead a new organization.
“It was heartwarming to see so many of our supporters, whose aspirations and hopes were lifted by our recent campaign, and they do not want to turn around now,” he stated. “Therefore, we want to keep our people together, within the Democratic Party and the Alabama Democratic Conference, and the New South Coalition, to work within the Democratic Party, and with other Democratic leaders, to make sure we have a Democratic victory in November.
“I was very pleased to talk with the Chairman of the Alabama Democratic party, Joe Turnham, and to hear his encouraging words, stressing how important it is that as Democrats we must all work together in order to elect the party slate in November. I look forward to working with him as well as Dr. Joe Reed, Chairman of the Alabama Democratic Conference, and Robert Avery, Chairman of the Alabama New South Coalition, and other leaders as we pull together now and prepare for November.”
The organization will be co-chaired by the Honorable Johnny Ford, and his wife, the Honorable Joyce London Ford, a retired U.S. Federal Judge. The 28th District is made up of six counties, which include Macon, Bullock, Barbour, Henry Lee and Russell counties, and each county will have a male and a female co-chair. According to Mr. and Judge Ford, “We are stressing the importance of having a man and a woman in leadership roles at the top of the organization, and in leadership for each county, because it is very important that women have an equal role in this political process.”
He added, “I want to stress that we are not organizing to be in completion with any other existing organization within the Democratic Party. Instead we are organizing to keep the Ford supporters together, and we are simply transferring the campaign organization into a Democratic Alliance which will compliment and work with all of the other organizations.
“We are already members of the Alabama Democratic Conference, and the New South Coalition, and I was very pleased that those two organizations endorsed my candidacy for senate. Next week we will convene the county leaders to complete the organizational process. The new Democratic Alliance of the 28th District is eager to begin the work of turning out the vote in support of the Democratic Party in November.”
