Marvin’s, a store which specializes in home improvement and garden items, will locate in Eufaula by early fall.
Store officials announced Tuesday morning that the new store would open in the old Walmart building by early October, if not sooner. On Monday, the Eufaula City Council approved a financial incentive agreement between the city and DHS Eufaula Ventures, which is planning to renovate Eufaula Towne Center.
Eufaula Towne Center includes the old Walmart building. Two other new tenants are expected to locate in the building, though no announcement has yet been made on potential tenants. (More on the agreement will be posted later on www.eufaulatribune.com)
Officials with Marvins stated in a press release that the Eufaula store will feature a 34,000 square foot home center with an attached lawn and garden center and drive through lumberyard. The store will offer building materials, electrical, plumbing, paint, millwork, hardware, tools, and lawn and garden products.
“We’ve been working towards the goal of opening a store to serve Eufaula and Barbour County for several years,” said Darrin Gilliam, CEO of Marvin's.
“The city has been very helpful throughout the process. All the pieces finally came together to make it happen. Our research indicates we will capture a great deal of sales that are currently being served outside of Barbour County.
“We would like to thank the very hard efforts of Mayor Jay Jaxon, Economic Development Director Jim Bradley, Director of Planning Sheri Proctor, and the entire city council in support of this project.”
Marvin's will hire approximately 25 associates to work in the new store.
The Eufaula-Barbour County Chamber of Commerce is collecting employment applications for all open positions. People who are interested may pick up and turn in their application at the chamber at 333 E. Broad St.
Available positions range from management to part-time associates. Job descriptions and more information about Marvin’s can be found at www.marvins.com.
More on this story will appear later on www.eufaulatribune.com and in the weekend edition of the Tribune, available Friday morning.
