A Eufaula man was arrested in Georgetown on Saturday afternoon after he allegedly shot toward a High Street residence.
Howard Grant, 42, of 425 W. Union St. in Eufaula, was charged with aggravated assault, a felony. More charges are pending, said Quitman County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Javier Garcia
According to a press release from the Quitman County Sheriff’s Office, Grant fired five to seven shots at a residence using a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun. According to witnesses, there were approximately eight to 12 people, mostly children and some adults, standing on the front porch and in the yard at the time.
Garcia stated Grant was angry at seeing his wife with another man
Bullet holes marked the wall within inches of where the offender’s wife was standing and passed through a group of children standing on the porch.
Grant fled the scene, dropped the gun off at another location and went back to his house. Deputies, with the assistance of Grant’s bail bondsman, were able to negotiate with him.
Grant eventually turned himself in without incident and was out on bond following two previous incidents of driving under the influence.
The gun was later recovered by the Eufaula Police Department and turned over to the QCSO.
“I am so grateful that no one was injured or killed by this uncontrolled outburst of emotions showing no regard for human life,” Sheriff Steve Newton stated in a press release.
“A 2-year old child was the victim of the last shooting such as this back in 2009.”
