Quitman County deputies arrested Marquis Johnson, 20, and Robert Billings, 17, of Georgetown early Wednesday morning and charged them with the burglary of Georgetown Pawn Shop late Tuesday night.
According to a press release from Sheriff Steve Newton, deputies received a call just before midnight Wednesday about a man with a gun.
“Quitman County dispatchers quickly confirmed that the location of the call and the name of the person making the call were bogus,” the release states.
“Minutes after the person-with-a-gun call, a 911 burglar alarm was called in at the Georgetown Pawn Shop. Additional deputies were dispatched to the pawn shop and upon their arrival they found the glass broken out of the front door of the business. Deputies quickly verified that the gun call was bogus and concentrated on the crime scene at the pawn shop.
“Pawn shop personnel were called to the scene and assisted deputies view the store video system. Using the video, deputies quickly identified the two suspects and located other evidence at the scene. Deputies interviewed neighbors and the family of the suspects and learned that the suspects had crossed into Alabama.
