The Braves’ Griffin Fenn had a pretty good night from the plate Thursday.
He singled and scored in the first inning. He reached on a walk in the third inning.
But fortunately for his team, he had a really night on the pitcher’s mound.
Fenn pitched four innings of shutout baseball as the Braves blanked the White Sox 9-0 in a Dixie Youth game. His line score was nearly flawless.
He allowed just one hit, a single to Ivan Gissendaner.
He struck out 11 batters including five consecutive White Sox batters between the second and third innings. And he only walked a pair of batters - both in the fourth inning.
In fact, Fenn received all the offensive support he would need in the first inning. Andrew King started the game with an infield hit and moved to second on a Chase Haney sacrifice. King and Fenn, who singled in the inning, would later score on pitches that got away from the White Sox catcher.
The White Sox threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Gissendaner singled and moved into scoring position after Jeremiah Forte reached on a fielder’s choice.
The Sox eventually had runners at second and third with no outs, but Fenn responded by striking out the next three batters - all swinging.
