The Braves’ Lara Derrow made the most of her second plate appearance Tuesday.
Derrow, the Braves’ cleanup hitter, belted a single to right field that scored Laura Turchiano with the game’s only run as her team edged the Dodgers 1-0 in a Dixie Angels contest. Her game-winning hit came in the fourth and final inning.
Turchiano had led off the inning with a single to short right field. She went to second on an infield error.
That set up Derrow’s hit. She belted an 0-1 pitch to right field that easily scored Turchiano from second.
The Braves had a chance to score more runs after loading the bases with just one out. But Emma Tyler struck out the last two batters she faced to keep the score 1-0.
The Dodgers had one final opportunity in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie or win the game. Turchiano made sure that didn’t happen. She struck out the side to seal the win.
The Braves actually had several chances to score during Tuesday’s game, stranding 10 runners on base in four innings. They left the bases loaded in the third and fourth innings.
Neither team had a hit until the bottom of the third inning. That was when the Dodgers’ Katie Fielder reached on an infield single.
She was one of two Dodgers to reach base in the game (Summer Orr reached on a walk in the first inning.)
The fourth inning hits from Turchiano and Derrow were the only hits of the game for the Braves.
Tyler struck out 9 batters in four innings, while Turchiano struck out 12 in four innings while allowing just one walk.
June Baggett, Jalin Turner, Laura Holland, Kylie Sanders, Zeasia Crews and Sydney Baggett all reached base for the Braves.
