It was hot outside late Monday afternoon when the Mets faced the Dodgers in a Ponytails/Belles game.

But unfortunately for the Dodgers, the Mets were even hotter. The visiting Mets scored six runs in the second inning and cruised to an 11-2 win at Old Creek Town Park.

The Mets batted around in the top of the second inning as they turned a 2-2 game into an 8-2 lead.

The first three batters of the inning reached base without a hit. Caitlyn McAdams led off the inning with a walk. Kendra Wright was hit by a pitch and Jazzlyn Purswell walked - but not before McAdams scored what would be the game-winning run on a couple of infield miscues by the Dodgers.

Then the Mets caught fire from the plate.

Angel Long laced a double to left field that scored Wright and Purswell to make the score 5-2. Mallori Green followed with a single to right center field that scored Long. Two batters later, Green scored on a double to left field by Carly Whitehead. That made the score 7-2. Whitehead would cap scoring for the inning when she crossed home plate after an infield error.

The Mets’ big inning broke open a close game. Both the Mets and Dodgers scored a pair of runs in the first inning.

Purswell and Long scored the Mets’ first two runs. Purswell walked and scored on an infield miscue. Long scored on a fielder’s choice by Jennifer Norton.

The Dodgers’ two runs were scored by Dixie Shirah and Brittanie Lambert. Shirah singled to start the bottom half of the first inning. She moved into scoring position on a Sydney Dowling single, and scored after Lambert reached base on an infield error. Lambert would later score on an error.

The Mets capped scoring in the top half of the third inning by plating three runs. Purswell, Green and Cheyenne Ingram scored the runs.

Purswell and Green both walked and scored on errors. Ingram walked and scored on a Norton single.

Purswell scored three runs to lead the Mets offensively. She walked on all three of her plate appearances. Long and Green both scored a pair of runs. Hannah Cantley had a hit for the Dodgers along with Dixie Shirah and Dowling.

Ingram was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits in three innings and only one hit after the first inning. She struck out four Dodgers.
