The Eufaula 12-year-old O-Zone All Stars remained perfect in district tournament play Saturday after edging Troy American 8-5 at Old Creek Town Park.
Eufaula’s Raequan Kelly pitched a one-hitter, striking out 13 Troy American batters while allowing just two walks. The run he allowed, which was scored in the fourth inning by Marquise Simmons, was unearned.
Kelley helped his own cause in the top of the fourth, sending a 1-0 pitch deep over the left field fence. His home run, which also scored Drew Spivey, was all the offense that Eufaula needed. Zac
Dismukes did hit a home run just one batter later for a little bit of insurance.
Eufaula’s first win in the district tournament was a 14-0 blanking of Slocomb in five innings. Broughton Jones went 2-for-2 with three runs. Kelly and Griffin Fenn each scored twice. Jones was the winning pitcher.
Eufaula will play Enterprise American Monday in a winner’s bracket game.
Troy American won its first game 8-5 over Troy National. Zay Burden scored what would be the game-winning run in the top of the fourth inning to break a 5-5 tie.
Rush Hixon scored three runs for Troy American.
The Troy Nationals remained alive in the tournament by defeating Slocomb 11-1 on Saturday. John Renfroe scored twice, and Austin Ingram was the winning pitcher.
Rookie League
Eufaula remained alive in the 9-year-old Rookie League tournament after defeating Greenville 8-2 Saturday.
Michael Lewis had two hits and two runs to lead Eufaula on offense. John Gray pitched a complete game four-hitter.
Eufaula lost its first game 15-4 to Enterprise National after allowing nine runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Trent Wells went 2-for-2 with a run for Eufaula.
Eufaula will play Troy National at 6 p.m. Monday in an elimination game.
Troy American defeated Enterprise American 6-5 Saturday in a winner’s bracket game. Clayton Hester belted a two-out double to score Bryan Redmon and Garrett Tucker with the tying and winning runs.
Enterprise had scored all five of its runs in the top half of the sixth to rally from a 3-0 deficit.
The Troy Americans also doubled up Greenville 16-8 in the tournament’s first game. Redmon scored three runs in the win.
The Troy Nationals lost its first game of the tournament, 18-4 to Enterprise American. Jamir Lampley, Will Sessions, Cameron Bush and Ridge Knotts all scored runs.
Pre-Majors
Eufaula opened the Pre-Majors tournament Friday with a 12-2 win over Brantley.
Tyler Crouch, Zach Stafford, Jim Johnson and Sam Waters all scored two runs each in the win.
Eufaula will play at 8 p.m. Monday in a winner’s bracket game.
