The Lakeside girls rebounded from a disappointing performance in the Terrell Academy Tournament with a pair of wins on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Chiefs defeated Springwood 64-48 on Monday and Emmanuel Christian 62-34 on Tuesday.
“We’re starting to play a lot better,” Lakeside coach Ricky Ward said. “Our team chemistry is improving.”
Lakeside (3-2) had 25 steals and committed just five turnovers against Springwood. Senior Peyton Brown led the Lady Chiefs with 22 points and six steals. Brittany Stephens added 11 points and 8 rebounds in her best game as a Lady Chief.
Jasonie Guice and Kasey Grant both scored 9. Guice had seven steals while Grant added six steals. Kayla Mullis added 8 points. Other scorers included Mary Linda Spivey and Lindsey Hulsey with 2 each and Carly Whitehead with 1.
Grant and Brown both had double-doubles against Emmanuel Christian. Grant scored 20 and pulled down 20 rebounds while Brown scored 12 and pulled down 12 rebounds. Other scorers included Lexie Gibson with 9, Mullis with 7, Stephens with 6, Hulsey with 4 and Guice and Spivey with 2 each.
The Lady Chiefs will play three region games infour days beginning Friday. They’ll host Evangel Christian Friday at 6 p.m., Autauga Academy Saturday at 3 p.m. and Edgewood Academy Monday at 5 p.m.
Lakeside defeated Autauga in last year’s state title game, and Ward has said Evangel could be a state title contender this season.
Varsity boys
The Lakeside boys fell to 0-3 with losses to Emmanuel Christian and Springwood.
The Chiefs were competitive against Emmanuel but lost 55-48.
Mack Goff led Lakeside with 15 points. Teammate Jacory Hobdy added 12 and Brady Buchan and Bryan Lee scored 11 points each.
No information was made available on the Springwood game.
The Chiefs will play Evangel Friday at 7:30 p.m., Autauga Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Edgewood Monday at 6:30 p.m.
JV boys
Lakeside’s junior varsity boys had little problem with Springwood, winning 48-26. Junior McLendon led a balanced attack with 12 points, followed by Alex Adams with 10, Desmond Richards and Reid Potthoff with 8 each, Drew Price with 7 and Will Cobb with 2.
However, the Chiefs dropped their first game of the season to Emmanuel, 46-35. Adams scored 12 followed by Potthoff with 11, Price with 6 and Richards and Hunter Jones with 2 each.
JV girls
Lakeside’s junior varsity girls are 3-0 after defeating Springwood 48-28 and Emmanuel 45-25.
Grant scored 15 against Springwood, and was followed closely by Mullis with 14. Other scorers included Stephens with 5, Guice with 4, Lindsey Hulsey and Brooke Morris with 3 each and Lindsey Andrews with 2.
Grant was also the leading scorer against Emmanuel with 11 points. Guice and Stephens scored 10 each, followed by Mullis with 6, Hulsey with 3, Blake Waddell and Hannah Killingsworth with 2 each and Whitehead with 1.
